A 74-year-old woman was awarded $500,000 by a Manhattan jury after she sued the New York Transit Authority for the injuries she sustained in a
pedestrian accident involving a city bus.
The
bus accident injury lawsuit is unique in that the NY Transit Authority claimed during the trial that the accident never occurred. According to the injury victim, factory worker Antonia Reyes, she stepped off of a curb and was struck by a bus. She refused immediate medical attention and the temporary driver asked her not to report the crash. After she arrived home, however, her daughter rushed her to the emergency room, where doctors discovered several fractures as well as tissue and ligament damage. She required an expensive and painful knee replacement surgery.
Reyes’ personal injury lawyer proved the case with bus schedules, witness testimony, and interviews with Reyes’ doctors. It is unclear what happened to the temporary bus driver who caused the
public transportation accident.
