NYC Hospital Wins Cancerous Kidney Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

A New York widow has lost a NYC medical malpractice lawsuit involving her late husband, who died of cancer after receiving a kidney transplant. According to the Associated Press, a Queens jury sided with the NYU Langone Medical Center in the case, which involved a cancer-riddle kidney transplant and patient Vincent Liew.

Leiw received a kidney transplant in 2002 and soon after was told that the kidney could have cancer – and that cancer could spread to Leiw’s other organs. While Leiw at first decided not to have the organ removed, he eventually did, but only after he was diagnosed with a number of tumors. He later died of the cancer, which a New York autopsy found was the same cancer that came from the donated kidney.

During the New York medical malpractice case, the hospital argued that it had informed the patient of the cancerous kidney immediately and monitored the situation closely.
