NYT: Men Cause 80% Of Serious Car Accidents In New York City

It is an ongoing argument: are men or women worse drivers? An article in the New York Times shares shocking new data that men are the cause of four out of five serious traffic accidents in New York City. The reason? Traffic safety experts say that due to hormones, men are naturally more aggressive and more likely to take risks. This leads to dangerous driving behavior, such as speeding, reckless driving, and running lights. Similar studies have also found that males are more likely to be seriously injured in a pedestrian accident for the same reasons.

Others say that the study is flawed: although men are responsible for more car accidents, they are also more likely to be behind the wheel. The vast majority of taxi drivers, limo drivers, and delivery truck drivers are men – and 60 percent of non-commercial drivers are men.

The data only took serious car accidents in New York under consideration – accidents that led to serious property damage and significant injuries.
