Construction Site Injuries – Head Injuries

Negligent construction workers or a construction site that is not following safety procedures often results in workers with injuries and even death. Construction site accidents may involve burn injuries, broken bones, blinding injuries, severe wounds and head injuries - all of which can make it difficult or impossible for the employee to return to work. Many of the construction site injuries employees suffer could be prevented.

Construction accidents resulting in head injuries are serious. All workers are required to wear hard hats to prevent head injuries but hard hats cannot prevent all types of accidents from hazardous working conditions.

Types of Construction Site Head Injuries

The following head injuries are examples of common injuries construction workers may experience on the job:

Closed head injury: the majority of all head injuries are classified as "closed head injuries" and are any injury where the head sustains striking against an object without penetration into the skull or brain.

Concussion head injury: if a strike against the head results in temporary loss of consciousness or awareness, it is considered a concussion head injury. Concussions may result in long-term effects.

Traumatic brain injury: if a construction injury results in damage to the worker's brain, it's considered a TBI accident. Symptoms may involve nausea or vomiting, persistent headaches, confusion, seizures, and loss of consciousness. Severe brain injury can cause disabilities and long term problems including Alzheimer's disease, dementia and Parkinson's disease.
