Match.com was founded in 1994 by Gary Kremen and is owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp. With offices in Dallas, West Hollywood, Tokyo, Rio, and Bejing, the international company employs roughly 340 people. It is the official dating website of Yahoo! and is often recognized as the largest personals website in the world.
Of course, the number of active members that Match.Com can claim is the source of some controversy. While the company itself has claimed to have over one million active subscribers and an almost equal number of men and women using their website, many believe that the majority of the website’s female profiles are fake or inactive and that the online dating company consistently inflates their numbers and lies about their membership. Some have also complained of the difficulty of canceling a Match.com subscription, while others have even claimed that the website uses “date bait” techniques to keep mail users from cancelling their membership.
Over the past five years, Match.com has faced a number of class action lawsuits filed by consumers who believed the online dating service employed a number of deceptive business practices. Most recently, our law firm, the office of Lever & Stolzenberg, LLP, filed a class action lawsuit after a number of former customers of the company came forward with allegations of misleading advertising and questionable business practices.
If you have lost money or suffered other damages because of the questionable business practices of Match.com, you should speak with a lawyer involved in the class action lawsuit against the online dating company immediately about your concerns.
