Road Safety Precautions Help Prevent Auto Accidents
There is a reason we have rules on the road for drivers - when people follow the road rules and take safety precautions, many auto accidents are prevented. Here are 3 tips for road safety that may help you avoid getting into an accident:
Obey Speed Limits
Speed limits are based on the conditions of the road, visibility, and the types of cars and trucks that frequent them. Many car accidents are a result of speed. They also are created with things drivers can't necessarily see, like how many side roads or driveways there are. Speed limits are posted for ideal road conditions, so you should adjust your maximum speed based on road and weather conditions, too.
Be Prepared to Stop
If you have to slam on your brakes, you risk putting your car into a skid and losing control. It generally points to the driver not paying attention, so be alert to your surroundings and always prepared to stop.
Turn Your Headlights On
Most modern cars have headlights that come on automatically when you put the car into "drive". Even if it's not dark enough that you need the headlights to see where you're going, the headlights help make your car more visible to the other drivers on the road. You can drive with headlights all the time, or at least get in a habit of using them when it's foggy, raining or snowy. At night, make sure you don't keep your high-beam headlights on when other cars are near by, they can make it impossible for other drivers to see where they're going.
