Statistically, teens are involved in a high percentage of car accidents. Some car accidents involving teens are due to inexperience, and others are due to carelessness. If you’re a teen driver, the following safety tips are provided as reminders to help you stay safe on the roads:
Wear your seat belt at all times, and make sure anyone who rides in your car always wear their seat belts, too.
Only allow the number of passengers your vehicle is equipped to carry. If there isn’t a seat belt for every passenger, you have too many people in the car.
Don’t speed. Driving too fast is one of the leading causes of teen car accidents.
Keep your windshield clean to avoid the glare from the sun or other cars at night from blinding you temporarily.
Before driving into an intersection, make sure there are no other cars in it or about to drive in – even if you have the green light.
Keep your gas tank at least half full. You don’t want to drive around with the gas gauge on empty, getting stranded can be dangerous and is rarely a good time!
Never drink and drive and don’t get in the car with another driver who has been drinking. Your parents would rather be called in the middle of the night for a ride than lose you to a drinking and driving car accident!
Keep the radio at a reasonable volume so you can hear if a siren is approaching or if another car blows the horn to warn you of something.
Keep your attention on the road, which means don’t play with the radio or use your cell phone while driving.
Always keep your eyes peeled for pedestrians, motorcycles, bicycles and keep a safe distance from them.
