A four year old girl in a Bronx neighborhood spotted an English bull terrier tied to an iron fence - but when she went over to pet him it bit her face. The owner of the dog was nearby when the dog bite happened.
The little girl was bleeding after the attack, and she and her mother, Nicki Fuller, were rushed to Lincoln Hospital where the child received four stitches in her upper left cheek and corner of her mouth. Fuller told the NY Post that her daughter would physically be ok but be scarred for life. She also indicated the dog had been a problem in the neighborhood for quite some time, which the owner of the dog denies. She also intends to take legal action to get something done about the dog.
The owner of the dog (who did not want to be identified) said the mother of the child ran into her apartment across the street from the park, and came out with a two-by-four, threatening to beat the dog. The man also said he told the mother it was a felony to hit the dog. Fuller confirmed she grabbed a two-by-four because she thought she would need to protect her daughter from the dog - but the dog was never hit. Police arrived on the scene quickly and calmed everyone down before the mother and daughter were taken to the hospital and the dog and owner were sent to an Animal Control center for rabies testing. The dog has had all vaccinations and is legally licensed.
The owner of the dog said, "I will compensate the girl's family in any way if she needs it. I feel bad."
