A Fishkill, NY gastroenterologist, Dr. Qian Xie from Chappaqua, lost control of his car during a rain storm and crashed into a rock outcropping on the Taconic State Parkway's east shoulder. Uninjured from this initial car accident, Dr. Xie got out of his car, where he was then hit by another car driven by Christine Pearse.
Pearse rounded a bend in the road in the northbound lane, saw the doctor's car blocking the road ahead of her and tried to stop but lost control of her car. She spun around 180 degrees, hit the same rock outcropping Dr. Xie's car hit, and then hit and killed the doctor. While the vehicle versus pedestrian crash is still under investigation, it does not appear that Pearse will be at fault.
When in a car accident, experts recommend getting out of your car and walking as far away from the road as you possibly can. On this particular section of the Taconic State Parkway, there is no shoulder on the road because of the rock outcropping.
