The overnight construction crew working on October 28th on Route 25-A in Long Island lost a construction worker to a hit and run around 1:35am. Detectives of Suffolk County said Victor Schultz, 49, and a co-worker were loading a machine onto a trailer on the side of the road when a dark-colored SUV struck Schultz. The co-worker was not injured, but Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The construction site did not have night-time construction lighting on when the accident occurred, which may indicate negligence on the part of the construction company.
The driver of the SUV never slowed down or stopped. Sgt. Jon Twiname spoke to WCBs 880's Sophia hall, and claimed "It's quite possible that because of the lighting conditions at the time and the late hour it is possible the driver is not aware that they had hit somebody."
If you have any information regarding the dark-colored SUV, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 to discuss the information confidentially.
