Last Sunday, the lives of two New York men were taken by a drunk driver near exit 62B as they attempted to change their flat tire in a terrible car accident. According to Sgt. Brian Polite, the driver of the Lincoln Towncar, 43 year old Wilfredo Pena, pulled the car off the road in a striped section of road between 62B and 62A exits so he and passenger, 28 year old Segunda Fernandez-Urena could change a flat tire. This routine automobile accident - needing to change a flat tire - resulted in a deadly situation when it was combined with a drunk driver.
The men were hit when the driver of a Hyundai lost control of his car while taking the 62B exit. The 29 year old driver, Jacob Cintron, crashed into the Lincoln Towncar and the two men changing the tire were pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Polite says Cintron is charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of vehicular homicide. He is currently in Bergen County Jail with a $125,000 bail set, and no 10% option.
