Personal Plane Crashes Prompt FAA Plan to Reduce Accidents

Posted on May 13, 2011

The Federal Aviation Administration announced a small plane accident in Houston, Texas, which killed two people. The airplane was a single-engine, homebuilt Ravin 500, N913RA aircraft, that left the Conroe airport on May 7th at 9am. A few minutes later, the pilot reported the cockpit had smoke, declared the plane was experiencing an emergency and attempted to turn around and bring the plane back to the Conroe airport. A half-mile north of the airport, the plane crashed and exploded, killing the pilot and the passenger on board.

The plane accident is being investigated by The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Too Many Personal Plane Accidents

In 2010, The Federal Aviation Administration recorded 268 fatal accidents involving personal airplanes and a total of 457 deaths. This is the equivalent of 1.14 accidents per 100,000 hours in the air. In March of 2011, the FAA announced a plan for private plane safety to reduce the number of accidents for personal aircraft by 10% before the year 2018.

If someone you love has been injured or killed in a personal plane accident that you believe is a wrongful death - that the maker of the aircraft was negligent and was the cause of the accident - contact experienced wrongful death lawyers like Lever & Stolzenberg LLP for representation in Surrogate's Court.
