Detectives are currently investigating a series of jacks for possible product malfunction. A Mahopac man, Esau Escobar, had used several jacks to lift his Nissan Titan truck off the ground so he could work on repairs underneath. He died when the jacks failed to support the truck and the truck crushed him.
Mahopac Falls Fire Department and Ambulance responded to the scene and attempted to keep Escobar alive, according to Lieutenant Brian Karst. Firefighters pulled his body out from beneath the truck at about 5:35pm on Thursday evening.
Escobar's sister was too distraught to comment. Detective Michael Russon and Lieutenant Karst both indicate that the jacks used by Escobar will be investigated and tested for possible product malfunction. If this tragic accident is found to be a product liability case, Escobar's family may receive compensation.
