Worker Dies in Construction Equipment Accident

A Vermont man, Michael Loyer, working for Trenchless Technologies of New England, died in a construction accident in Port Kent, New York on Monday. Loyer had been operating a large piece of construction equipment, a Barbco auger, to install a large pipe under the railroad. The machine got stuck in the pipe somehow, and Loyer was thrown from the equipment and then pinned to the ground by the machine.

An employee of Fuller Excavation, Noah Rounds, also on the job at the construction site, used a backhoe to lift the auger off Loyer. Noah Rounds and Timothy Clark, another employee of Trenchless Technologies, attempted to revive Loyer with CPR until the ambulance arrived, but were unsuccessful.

Michael Loyer died of multiple injuries he received from the NY construction accident, and is an example of the serious hazards construction workers face day after day on the job. The incident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New York Police, in an effort to find who is liable for the accident.
